It apppears the sister of George Harrison is behind the 'Liverpool Legends' show in Branson. It's been mentioned by her on Beatles-a-rama, a popular internet radio station, unapologetically, that they are in Branson. That's real confidence I tell ya.

I'm seriously getting the itch to venture into the wilderness again. Deciding where to go is such fun. Like looking at some sort of grand, panoramic catalog. The route for my last extensive hike was based largely on 4 or 5 pretty pictures that were in the guidebook. I'm trying to be more thorough in my research this time.
The snow will be melted in August, to where the the trail will be 100 percent clear. I'm thinking of going in July, though. It ought to be ok.

The 'On the Lot' submission has been a positive force in getting work on the movie jump-started for this shooting season. Having this preliminary trailer will be a great asset in helping me get more people involved in making the rest of the movie. I was surprised, though, how much material we had already shot, and how many things didn't make it into the trailer.

OK, I used to be a paying member of E*Harmony (pathetic and lame, I know), and they sent me an email today telling me that I was violating an agreement we apparently made sometime back. I don't remember shaking anybody's hand, but OK. I had posted my email address and they told me to take it down. So I took it down, no problem. Then I sat down and wrote them this invigorating (for me) little email:

Dear The E*Harmony Team,

I did not know that I was violating the end user agreement, or whatever it was called by posting my email. Your company has already made a decent amount of money from me, although it's probably not that large an amount compared to myriad other poor customers your company keeps stringing along who are in a condition similar to mine.

I understand you are a commercial enterprise and you certainly deserve to be paid for the premium information which you have scientifically gathered. But, here’s the twist…

(with a touch of sarcasm)

JAMIE:

“I ALREADY GAVE YOU MY MONEY!!!”

You guys are like the character Newman from Seinfeld said as he worked his greedy little fingers, ‘…the post office controls—information!’ If you are a Microsoft server and you are reading this, you probably didn’t get that, but I continue…

I have removed the links for which I have been called in question, but first I must ask you, if you are indeed a real person and not some server-generated message, (which I suspect b/c of the random nature of the passage selection) if YOU actually take a large chunk of YOUR valuable time to sift through ridiculous EULAs multiple times in order to decipher the steaming piles of legalese crap.

Oh, and about the stringing along...

I've had my email address posted for, like, two years now. Why is it that just now I have been asked to remove it? Could it possibly be that I'm to first be plied with a staggering amount of follow-up email solicitations to rejoin before being 'called on the carpet?' Sounds like some sort of unhealthy relationship that can sometimes happen between two people when one person loves the other one so much they try to dominate and subjugate the other and then the other person tries to gain the advantage by taking…(That could go on for a while so I’ll stop there.)

Finally,

in the likely case that I'm talking to a machine, hello there little server, it's nice to meet you, I'm a real, actual person with feelings, who's just wasted some more time writing this heartfelt email to a MACHINE.

In the case that I have the unlikely good fortune of addressing a real, actual person with feelings, I would be most delighted if you would deign to reply to my rant with a sincere message of more than two sentences sandwiched into a ridiculously cold form email. (URGENT MESSAGE my foot, URGENT to rake in the bucks is more like it)

Yesterday was the most beautiful day I've seen in a long time. I was on the road for 4 to 5 hours, and the colors were so bright. The ground was still wet with rain, and the sun was out--everything looked so saturated and brilliant. I guess this is what they call Indian summer. Today's supposed to be awesome, too.

Well, when we finally opened it, the meat on the top wasn't done, but the meat on the bottom was pretty done. The butterfly chops were really good, and I think the grape leaves gave them a nice flavor.

SO....I made several packs from the unfinished-cooking meat, wrapping them in foil and leaving them in the oven at 350 for about an hour and giving them to everyone after the Q and A, in something of an island tradition.

What I should have done was get the fire going about an hour sooner and let a larger amount of coals build up. I really did like the grape leaves, though. I thought that was a great thing to have that you could substitute for other large leaves.

Oh, and the taro on the bottom was really good, a lot of people got to try those. I actually ate quite a bit of it.

I wanna do it again.

all I can do now is wait.

It's cool to be able to say on those certain special days that you did something totally new that you've never done before. Today I made a pit fire, or earth oven, as they are called on Wikipedia. We don't really do these here, I guess the closest thing to this in America would be a clambake, something about which I would venture to say that nobody reading this has ever been to.

Actually, I've made two of these particular type fires today. The first was a small test fire in my backyard. I just finished eating/ sampling a little of it. The first one wasn't probably done quite right, b/c I didn't get it sealed off the way it should be, b/c it started RAINING on me. But, I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, the potatoes were cooked almost all the way through, and the pork riblets not to terribly dry.

This is all for a missions convention my church is having this weekend. The main obstacle to doing this type of fire is materials--you need volcanic rock. The missionary that's coming told me when I called him that his was the main difficulty, and then mentioned that there was a place in town that had 'landscape rock.' I, in my extensive and trivial knowledge of many unimportant things such as all forms of rocks, rejected this idea, being familiar with the rocks he was talking about. Pumice. As you may well know, pumice is formed from the bubbles atop the lava, or something like that. They are very light and some of them will even float. They have very little heat retention.

After pondering the possibility of even doing this, I suddenly realized that I did, in fact have a source of igneous stone. We install granite counters for a granite shop, and they have an abundance of decent-sized scraps of granite, several of which I picked up this morning.

Anyway, the second fire is looking pretty good so far. I was able to gather quite a lot of wild grape leaves behind the church to line the hole, covering the granite slabs, some of which were literally red-hot. I've never seen a rock actually glowing red like that, pretty awesome. On that went the food, (whole taro root, and several different cuts of pork), quickly covering the meat with more of the large grape leaves, covering that with about three thicknesses of damp burlap, and finally shoveling dirt over the burlap, looking for anywhere that smoke was seeping through.

All I have to do now is wait...
